First-time buyer stamp duty

The Chancellor announced that Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) for first-time buyers reverts to previous levels from 31 March 2025.

How much stamp duty do first-time buyers pay?

The Chancellor announced in the autumn budget statement on 30 October 2024 that stamp duty land tax (SDLT) for first-time buyers will revert to previous levels from 31 March 2025.

  • The threshold for first-time buyers will drop from £425,000 to £300,000.
  • A 5% first-time buyer relief applies on the portion between £300,001 and £500,000 (down from the previous value of £625,000).
